Way back in 1846, the Bichsel family opened their mill in the heart of the Emmental, Switzerland. Their products would later become a household name, but at that time nobody had ever heard of cornflakes or wheat pops. Corn, oats and wheat were processed into foodstuffs using the simplest of technology.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the family enterprise became a shareholder company and moved to a new location near the railway line in Lützelflüh.

As Switzerland’s leading manufacturer of oat flakes, it was only natural for Kentaur to try to popularise Dr. Bircher-Benner’s nutrition line in the form of a ready-to-eat Birchermuesli/Cereals.

As the years passed, people’s eating habits changed, and Kentaur became the Swiss leading manufacturer of cereal flakes and pops.
