In the Emmental
In 1846, at the heart of renowned Emmental, the Bichsel family laid the cornerstone in place for a long milling tradition. At that time no one had thought of cornflakes and wheat pops. Corn, oats and wheat were processed in a simple way to produce foodstuffs.
At the beginning of the 20th century the family operation was transformed into a limited company with a new site on the railway line in Lützelflüh.
The oat mill
As the first manufacturer of oat flakes in Switzerland, it made sense for KENTAUR to seek to open up to a wider audience with the nutritional line Dr. Bircher-Benner's, in the form of a ready-to-eat muesli.
Over time and with a change in nutritional habits, the company developed into a leading producer of flakes and pops.
